Welcome to the website of Liverpool photographer Mark McNulty.

Whilst my work has been published internationally and I have worked around the world, most of my current work is based in the city of Liverpool and much of it is actually about the city in that I photograph it's people, it's events and it's ever changing appearance. I mostly work within the city for a variety of clients on retail, fashion, music, advertising and editorial commissions.

And with Liverpool being the 2008 European Capital of Culture, I am also documenting the city for a variety of editorial and commercial clients. A lot of the work I photograph this year will also be used as part of a photographic project that sees a team of 6 photographers documenting Liverpool every day in 2008. The results will be published next year in a book to be called 0151 366 2008, though you can view the current state of play by checking out the website in the links section.

I am also about to have my second book published, by Liverpool's University Press, and that's titled Pop Cultured : The Music Photography of Mark McNulty. In celebration of this publication I will be exhibiting work from my music archive at Microzine on Bold Street, Liverpool, throughout October and November. All of the photographs are for sale. My previous book, a document of crazy golf courses across the UK, is available for purchase and that's called 'Rocketships & Windmills'. Please email for details.

This site brings together all of my work including my commercial work, my fashion and music portfolios, my travel library, images of Liverpool for sale as prints or for commercial licensing, a small selection from my expansive archive and some of my personal work and projects both completed and unfinished.

The following images are recent images and photographs relating to exhibitions and recent published work etc.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Heres a selection of images from 2008.

I've recently been working on an online store to enable prints to be bought securely online as well the two books I've had published. The shop has over 80 items within it but the same prices can be applied to most images on this site so feel free to ask about anything that ain't in the shop itself. The shop is up there on the left somewhere! Thanks.

I recently photographed Paul O'Grady for the Scotsman Magazine on location in and around Hope Street Hotel in Liverpool. The photographs were on the front cover of the magazine in early November.

This is the cover for the Cheshire based lifestyle magazine Living Edge. The model in this shot is Domonique (Impact models) and the make up artist is Debbie Lezemore with styling by Charlotte Harper. My favourite photograph from the weekend that the 50ft spider came to town didn't actually feature the spider but there are other images from La Princesses visit in the events section.

This was shot in the summer for the Culture Company and was taken at the Streets Ahead Festival. The image is currently being used by the client in the 6 month report into 2008. More images from this and other '08 events are in the portfolio/events section.

Although I photographed most of the bands at this year's 2 day Creamfields (Chic, Ian Brown, Gossip etc..), I also did a lot of crowd portraits, more of which are in the events section.
Peter Postlethwaite is coming back to Liverpool to play King Lear at the Everyman and I recently did some portraits of him for the theatre's press department.

The waterfront is constantly changing and so is the need for new images as new buildings change the face of the city. The sunset/silhouette image was taken from the upper bar at the Liverpool Phil just before I photographed the opening concert of the new season whilst the other image is just after an August storm and was taken whilst on a reccy for a book cover shoot of which there'll be more news soon.
The Phil take a month off during August and this was their final concert of the last season. It was also a return, after some years away, to the Albert Hall for the BBC Proms.Gordon Brown gets a guided tour of The Walker Art Gallery by Reyhan King, NML's art galleries curator, accompanied by Phil Redmond and Dr.David Fleming.

Elvis Costello photographed backstage at The Phil where he was performing with The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in a show that encompassed both new material with reworked classics.

Stella McCartney recently hosted a fashion show at LIPA, on the same day that her dad was playing Liverpool Sound, and I got asked to do the official photographs of the event. And if the show looks a little chaotic then that's because it was all based on a game of musical chairs. There are more photographs of the event on the blog.

Art In The Age Of The Steam Train is the latest exhibition at the Walker and one of their highlights of the Capital of Culture. Former trainspotter Michael Palin came to Liverpool to launch the exhibition and is seen chatting here to Dr.David Fleming, director of Liverpool Museums.

Ken Dodd photographed, in the concert room of St.George's Hall, for the project 0151 366 2008. The project features 6 photographers who are out photographing every day of the year in Liverpool, and it's surrounding areas, in it's year as European Capital Of Culture. My contributions have included portraits, events, city views and one or two random moments in a fast changing city. Feel free to get in touch with any ideas of events or people that you think should be included in this project.

The Bluecoat has recently reopened after a massive facelift and one of the first events of it's 2008 calendar was a performance by Yoko Ono.

Another photograph from the 0151 366 2008 project. This is the Waterloo end of Crosby Beach.

It's only 4 months in but the Viennese Balls at St.George's Hall is already a highlight. This was commissioned by the Liverpool Phil as the orchestra provided the music, conducted by Vasily Petrenko.
