| Shipley is a large, very rural Parish in the north of the Horsham District, best known for its unique Smock Mill once owned by the poet Hilaire Belloc. Once a hive of activity with iron foundaries, stone quarries and timber felling it is now a calm and peaceful place. The Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin has many links with the Knights Templars and the Crusades, while at Coolham is the 16th century cottage `The Blue Idol¿ where William Penn¿s Quakers met regularly. It is now a guest house and still used by the Society of Friends. |
